Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American TV journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. After growing up living in New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature at The University of Pennsylvania. In 1967 Mitchell began her career as a reporter with KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976, Mitchell was hired by WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). Then she joined NBC News Washington two years following that as general reporter. Beginning in 1981 she began covering the White House. In 1988 she became the chief congressional reporter. Mitchell was named chief White House correspondent by NBC News in the year 1992. Mitchell hosted and was panelists on the TV show Meet the Press. Mitchell joined the panel in 1988's presidential debates in which George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell married Alan Greenspan the former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was presented with the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government for excellence in the field of journalism. In 2004, The Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition for her work in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's very first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. This period included both Ronald Reagan terms in office. Her reporting included a number of important stories like the Iran-contra scandal, the tax and budget reforms and also the arms control. She traveled widely with President Reagan to meet with Mikhail Gorbachev.
